SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Montreal Gazette and Post-Standard reported on the collaboration between JPMorgan Chase and SU to provide a new Technology Education Certificate program to post-9/11 veterans.

Art Daily reported on the London display of The Quintet of the Unseen, a large-scale piece by video artist and SU alumnus Bill Viola on view at Blaine/Southern Contemporary Art Gallery. The Quintet of the Unseen is from Viola’s Quintet Series. Another piece in the series, The Quintet of the Astonished, was installed at the Everson Museum of Art by the Urban Video Project in October 2010, in collaboration with Light Work and the Connective Corridor.

Reports in C-SPAN (watch video clip); Associated Press; and Mississippi media including The Clarion-Ledger (Jackson), Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (Tupelo), WLOX-TV (Biloxi) and WLBT3 (Jackson) noted that Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James E. Graves Jr., Syracuse University alumnus of the College of Law and Maxwell School, has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. Graves is the first African American judge from Mississippi on the 5th Circuit.

Reviews of two SU Press-published books include an article in The Forward on Andrew Furman’s “My Los Angeles in Black and (Almost) White,” and a Daily News of Newburyport (Mass.) story about author Aine Greaney’s upcoming novel, “Dance Lessons.” Lisa Kuerbis, marketing coordinator at SU Press, is quoted in the Newburyport article.

Data from SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is cited in an Immigration Daily article on the backlog of pending deportation cases.

SU’s Project Advance (SUPA) is featured in a Times Tribune article on the new relationship between SUPA and the North Pocono School District to offer college-level classes to students.

The Post-Standard reported on the upcoming University Lectures appearance by “Fast Food Nation” author Eric Schlosser.

Kelly Brown ’03, associate director of career services in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, posted a blog entry about networking at Syracuse.com.
