Perhaps you’ve heard of LinkedIn.com, but aren’t quite sure how it works or why you should build a profile. More than 90 million people are using LinkedIn as a networking site to build connections, showcase professional achievements and ultimately land jobs.

On Wednesday, Feb. 23, Krista Canfield, 2003 SU alumna and LinkedIn’s senior public relations manager, will visit SU to demonstrate the power of LinkedIn for students and alumni. “LinkedIn 101: Are You In?” will include hourly presentations from Canfield, as well as opportunities for students and alumni to receive hands on support with building their LinkedIn profiles and utilizing all of the website’s features.

The event will run from 12:30-4:30 p.m. in Room 304ABC of the Schine Student Center Students are encouraged to stop in throughout the afternoon and to bring laptops, if possible. Refreshments will be available.

“For students seeking internships and jobs, or simply looking to explore different career fields, LinkedIn is such a powerful tool,” says Kim Brown, alumni programs coordinator at Career Services. “More than 75,000 SU alumni have profiles on LinkedIn, which makes it a tremendous resource for students who wish to make career connections.”

At “LinkedIn 101: Are You In?” students will be able to work directly with Canfield, Brown and other career services professionals on building their LinkedIn profiles, adding connections and joining groups, finding jobs and internships, and tapping into the SU alumni network.

“Most students have a general sense that they should be on LinkedIn, but they’re unsure how to fully utilize the site,” says Brown. “With this event, we’re hoping to demystify LinkedIn and show students tangible things they can do to get the most benefit from the site.”

All interested SU students and alumni are encouraged to attend “LinkedIn 101: Are You In?” For more information, contact Brown  at kmbrow04@syr.edu, or 443-3616.
