SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Immigration Court analysis from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse is cited in a Cincinnati.com article on the case of two young sisters awaiting a deportation decision. TRAC analysis was also cited in an Associated Press article on the number of threats to the U.S government.

ProLiteracy devoted the entire edition of its Weekly New Readers Press publication “News for You” to the SALT District and the organization’s planned move to the Case Supply Building in the Near Westside neighborhood. SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor is featured throughout the publication.

The Central New York Business Journal (subscription required) featured a front page story on the Near Westside Initiative microloan program.

Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship in the Whitman School of Management, spoke with Syracuse.com for a multimedia article on the roundtable convened by U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand at the South Side Innovation Center, discussing ways to help alleviate the high unemployment rate of military veterans. Haynie was a speaker at the roundtable.

The Post-Standard reported on how earth sciences professors and other faculty from SU produced new lava from a 825 lb. piece of recovered lava from Wisconsin.

Karin Franklin, adjunct professor of broadcast and digital journalism in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is featured in the Feb.-March issue of 55 Plus.

FACULTY QUOTES

William Banks, Board of Advisors Distinguished Professor and director of the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism in the College of Law and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, is quoted in Newsweek on the recent presidential orders for Predator drone strikes.

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, is quoted in a Vancouver Sun (Canada) article on the potential deportation of Cindor Reeves from Canada and in a Daily Mail (U.K) story on Charles Taylor’s war crimes trial ending with the former Liberian president boycotting the proceedings.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Dallas Observer story about eight-track tapes.

The Sunday Post-Standard published an op-ed by Tina Nabatchi, assistant professor of public administration in the Maxwell School, on incivility in public meetings.
