Whitman students offer free tax assistance Feb. 25, March 4, March 25, April 1

Accounting students in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will offer free income tax preparation assistance to all SU students, faculty and staff on Feb. 25, March 4, March 25 and April 1.

This service will cover non-complicated individual federal and New York State tax returns that can generally be filed on IRS short forms (1040 EZ or 1040A). Individuals who have income from employment (reported on Form W-2), as well as interest and dividends, are welcome to seek assistance.

The Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Free Tax Assistance group will be in the Flaum Grand Hall, located in the Whitman Building, on these four days from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The service will be offered on a first come, first served basis and is directed toward tax payers who may need a little extra help figuring out their taxes.

“Tax season is a difficult time for everyone,” says Mitch Franklin, assistant professor of accounting in the Whitman School. “This program allows students to put into action all of the information they are learning in their classes in order to help out their fellow colleagues.”
