TRAC: Backlog on Immigration Court hearings continues
According to a new analysis of court data by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), despite the recent hiring of additional immigration judges, the number of cases awaiting resolution before the Immigration Courts has continued to grow.
At the end of December 2010, the backlog reached a new all-time high of 267,752 matters. The case backlog grew 2.6 percent during the first quarter of FY 2011, and is now 44 percent higher than levels at the end of FY 2008. The average length of time cases have been waiting increased to 467 days, compared with 456 days at the end of September.
