SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

CNY Central (watch video clip) and 9WSYR reported briefly on Syracuse University students in Cairo through SU Abroad.

Articles in Associated Press and Examiner.com cite research from SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) about rising rates of illegal re-entry to the United States following deportation.

The SU Opera Theatre’s double bill of Mozart and Haydn was reviewed on Syracuse.com.

The Post-Standard reported on the SU/Centro Bus Time program providing Connective Corridor bus riders predictive bus information via GPS tracking and display signs.

R. David Lankes, associate professor in the School of Information Studies (iSchool), is featured in a Sunday Post-Standard question-and-answer story about development of the Reference Extract, a project to make it easier to find credible information online.

Gannett newspapers in Elmira and Ithaca briefly previewed a lecture presentation by Milton C. Sernett, professor emeritus of history and African American studies in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, for Black History Month events at Chemung Valley History Museum in February.

The Post-Standard Stars magazine reviewed the “For Syracuse” Urban Video Project installation at Syracuse Stage by artist Jenny Holzer. Jeffrey Hoone, executive director of Light Work and the Coalition of Museum and Art Centers at Syracuse University, is quoted.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, spoke with NPR for a report on corporate taxes in the United States.

Joel Kaplan, associate dean of professional graduate studies at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a New York Times article on ethics in sports journalism.

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted in a Bloomberg article on Social Security and cutting the federal deficit.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted in a Variety article about competition between networks for Olympics and other sports coverage following the merger of NBC Universal and Comcast.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Commercial Appeal (Memphis, Tenn.) story on the future direction of Justin Timberlake’s career and commented for a Lexington Herald Leader story on the “Bad Girls Club” Oxygen reality television show. Thompson is also quoted in a South Bend Tribune article about legislating against loud TV ads.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School of Management, authored a column in Tax.com on a pilot program for issuing federal tax refunds via debit cards.

Edward Morris, a part-time instructor in transmedia studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, authored an opinion piece for Metropolis magazine about clean energy, sustainability and politics.

Robin P. Malloy, E.I. White Chair and Distinguished Professor of Law in SU’s College of Law, is quoted in a Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin article about unified zoning codes streamline ordinances across political boundaries.

William D. Duncombe, professor of public administration in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Post-Standard story on county property tax bills.
