SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The New York Times and the Chronicle of Higher Education reported on the performance of Syracuse University’s endowment, as reported annually by the NACUBO-Commonfund Study of Endowments.

The Utica Observer-Dispatch highlighted an upcoming performance at Colgate University by Steven Heyman, associate professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

CNY Central, WSYR-TV, and YNN News reported on the opening of the South Side Communication Center, a key part of development of a business and cultural district along South Salina Street between East Colvin Street and Brighton Avenue that has been spearheaded by the Southside Community Coalition, SU’s South Side Initiative Office and Home HeadQuarters.

YNN News reported on the SU/Centro pilot program to provide real-time predictive bus information for Connective Corridor and campus shuttle bus riders via GPS tracking system and LED display signs on selected buses and bus stops.

The Post-Standard profiled School of Architecture alumnus Brendan Rose G’10, the first Syracuse Public Artist in Residence.

The Post-Standard reviewed the Jan. 23 Joyful Noise series by faculty from VPA’s Setnor School of Music.

The Post-Standard highlighted the 26th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at Seymour Dual Language Academy on Saturday.


Syracuse Eagle
reported on VPA graduate students Tonja Torgerson and Joel Weissman receiving a grant from the Salt City DISHES Dinner for their proposal to create art that is also activism, as part of their collaborative called SUBPAR, or Syracuse Urban Beautification Public Art Resistance. SUBPAR originated in their ART 500 “Art and Activism” class last semester.

David Yaffe, assistant professor of English in The College of Arts and Sciences, authored a column for the Village Voice on Bob Dylan’s breakout year in 1961.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a MediaBistro article on Keith Olbermann’s television future.

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, is quoted in an Open Society Foundation blog on the trial of Jean-Pierre Bemba, accused of failing to control his troops in the Central African Republic. He also spoke with BBC on the sentencing of one of the conspirators in the bombing of the two U.S. embassies in Africa.
