SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Saturday announcement of the SRC providing a $5 million community matching gift to Say Yes to Education was covered by the Post-Standard, YNN News, WSYR-TV, WSYR radio, and CNY Central.

Area media coverage of the 26th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and presentation of Unsung Hero Awards at Syracuse University included reports by YNN News and the Post-Standard.

SU Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor and Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric Spina are mentioned in a Post-Standard commentary written by Cornell President David Skorton on technology transfer and converting research activity into local economic growth.

CNY Central reported on an SU/Centro pilot program to provide real-time predictive bus information for Connective Corridor and campus shuttle bus riders via GPS tracking system and LED display signs on selected buses and bus stops.

The Post-Standard reviewed the Syracuse Stage/SU Drama production of the musical “Rent.”

FACULTY QUOTES

Eric Kingson, professor in the School of Social Work in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted in an AARP Bulletin story on new careers for baby boomers as they redefine retirement.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted on the passing of Jack LaLanne in a New York Times report and WWJ (Detroit) radio segment (listen to audio clip). Thompson also spoke on CBS News and Washington’s WTOP-AM (listen to clip) about Keith Olbermann leaving MSNBC and the ending of the “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” show. Also, Thompson is quoted in an MSNBC story about fan reactions to misbehavior by entertainers and discussed the MTV series “Skins” and the new season of “American Idol” on WSYR radio’s Jim Reith Show.

Lynn Brann, assistant professor of nutrition in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted in a St. Louis Dispatch story on the new “Sneaky Chef to the Rescue” cookbook.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, is quoted in a Kansas City infoZine article on Congress and health-care legislation.

Anthony Rotolo, assistant professor of practice in the School of Information Studies (iSchool), is quoted in a Columbus Dispatch (Ohio) story about offensive messages posted to online memorial websites and in a Post-Standard report on SU being the second-most influential college on Twitter.

Duncan Brown, assistant professor of physics in The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in a WSYR radio report on SU’s new supercomputer project to provide resources for scientists involved with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO).

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School of Management, is quoted in a Rochester Democrat and Chronicle story on former congressman Dan Maffei’s approach to reform of the corporate tax code from outside Congress.

Me’Shae Brooks-Rolling, senior operations manager in the Burton Blatt Institute, authored a Post-Standard Moneywise article on careers and professional networking.

Randy Wenner, coordinator of broadcast journalism facilities in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Post-Standard story on the trend of AM radio moving to FM broadcasts.
