SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Post-Standard reported on a five-year, $3.4 million grant from the National Science Foundation to Syracuse University to study ways to recruit, retain and advance women university faculty members in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. SU Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor; Shobha Bhatia, Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science; and Karin Ruhlandt-Senge, Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry in The College of Arts and Sciences are quoted. The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the Whitman School of Management are also mentioned.

A New York Times article about paying for the treatment of eating disorders mentions “Brave Girl Eating,” the book by Harriet Brown, assistant professor of magazine journalism in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, in discussing family-based therapy.

Today’s Post-Standard column by Dick Case makes note of SU’s partnership with the city on renovation of Forman Park along the Connective Corridor. Sharon BuMann, part-time instructor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), is quoted.

A Sunday Post-Standard business section story about a local animation company features David Hicock, part-time instructor in transmedia studies in VPA.

FACULTY QUOTES

Brian Sheehan, associate professor of advertising in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Voice of America article on advertisers, global culture and social media marketing.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Houston Chronicle story on the passing of football player and broadcaster Don Meredith and in an Agence France Presse story about the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s assassination.

Dan Klamm, outreach and marketing coordinator at SU’s Center for Career Services, authored a Mashable column on social media and long distance job searches.

Mitchell Franklin, assistant professor of accounting in the Whitman School, is quoted in a CNBC story on minority financial investing.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Fox Business article about the “Making Work Pay” middle class tax credit and other proposed tax strategies for stimulus.
