SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Statistics from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) are mentioned in a Houston Chronicle article on Temporary Protected Status for illegal immigrants from Mexico and a Crime Report story on the implementation of the Secure Communities immigration program.

The New York Times reported on the passing of Helen Boatwright, celebrated soprano and former faculty member in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

The Dec./Jan. issue of CNY Business Exchange features articles on several of SU’s community members and programs. Included in the issue is:

·         “Ripped from the Headlines” briefs on the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science (LCS) being named a leader in cyber-security, and the South Side Innovation Center (SSIC) receiving a grant from JPMorgan Chase to support entrepreneurial efforts;

The Post-Standard, YNN and WRVO reported on the dedication of the Syracuse Biomaterials Institute (SBI). A podcast is available here. Patrick T. Mather, director of the SBI and the Milton and Ann Stevenson Professor of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering in LCS, is quoted.

A photo of Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers, part-time instructor in The College of Arts and Sciences, accompanies a Monday Post-Standard story about local musicians remembering the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death.

Changyong Choi, a Maxwell School graduate fellow in social science, is quoted in an MSNBC article about technological disparities between North and South Korea, in the event of a possible reunification.

Vincent Tinto, Distinguished University Professor in the School of Education, is quoted in a Chronicle of Higher Education article on graduation rates.

Marshall Segall, professor emeritus of social and political psychology, appeared on Blog Talk Radio to discuss his new e-book, “What Are We Talking About When We Talk About Race.”

David Rubin, professor and dean emeritus at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, authored an op-ed in Sunday’s Post-Standard on WikiLeaks and the First Amendment.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Kansas City Star story about the evolution and effects of reality TV.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, interviewed Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney as part of the Campbell Conversations. A podcast is available here.
