Wind turbine efficiency research led by L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science (LCS) graduate students Guannan Wang, Basman El Hadidi, Jakub Walczak; Mark Glauser, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and associate dean for research and doctoral programs in LCS; and Hiroshi Higuchi, LCS mechanical and aerospace engineering professor; was presented at the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics meeting in Long Beach, Calif., as reported by PhysOrg, Science Daily, Daily Tech and other science and technology websites.

The Chronicle of Higher Education includes Syracuse University in an update of capital campaigns across the country.

SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) statistics are cited in a Fox News Latino story about federal criminal prosecutions. Susan Long, co-director of TRAC, is quoted.

The “Run and Tell That! New Work from New York” exhibition at SUArt Galleries is reviewed in the Post-Standard Stars magazine. David Prince, associate director of SUArt Galleries, is quoted. The show is co-curated by Prince and Eric Gleason ’05.

Will Headlee, professor emeritus of organ in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Setnor School of Music, was a guest on CNY Central Weekend Today with Laura Hand on Saturday. Headlee promoted the November 21 concerts celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Holtkamp organ in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium of Crouse College.

The Post-Standard reported on the awarding of the U.S. Green Building Council’s 2010 Leadership Award to the SyracuseCoE.

A Syracuse.com story about the Genesis Health Project featured the work of Luvenia Cowart, professor of practice in the College of Human Ecology (COHE), and COHE graduate student Melissa Perkins to fight diabetes by checking men’s blood pressure during barber shop visits.

YNN covered SU’s annual International Thanksgiving Meal for international students and their families. Also, a photo from the Schine Student Center meal accompanied the print edition of the Post-Standard’s Sean Kirst column comparing celebrations of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

FACULTY QUOTES

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in COHE’s School of Social Work, co-authored a Los Angeles Times op-ed on Social Security and the Bowles-Simpson plan for deficit reduction. Also, Kingson’s letter to the editor on Social Security reforms appeared in the New York Times.

School of Education Dean Douglas Biklen is quoted in a Wall Street Journal article on federal and state governments removing pejorative phrasing from legal language describing individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in an Ottawa Citizen story about the nightclub tour by MTV reality television series Jersey Shore character DJ Pauly D, also known as Paul Delvecchio; and in a Guardian (UK) story on the working-class sitcom, “Raising Hope.” Thompson is also quoted in a PopEater article about reality show contestants coping with the quick rise and fall of fame and in a Rochester Democrat and Chronicle story about “CSI: The Experience,” a traveling exhibit now at the Rochester Museum & Science Center.

Robert Odawi Porter, professor of law in the Syracuse University College of Law and recently elected president of the Seneca Nation of Indians, was interviewed by Syracuse.com and featured in an Evening Observer (Dunkirk, N.Y.) article about his address at “Canvass Day” ceremonies.

Samuel Gorovitz, professor of philosophy in The College of Arts and Sciences and founding director of The Renée Crown University Honors Program, Is quoted in a Post-Standard article on genetic analysis, genomic retailers and genotyping in medicine.
