SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Syracuse University Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor is mentioned in a Chronicle of Higher Education article about colleges and universities forging public perceptions of good reputation in higher education.

The November 2010 issue of Metropolis magazine contains an eight-page feature about the SyracuseCoE, Connective Corridor, The Warehouse and the three residential construction projects from the School of Architecture’s “From the Ground Up: Innovative Green Homes” design competition, Live Work Home, TED and R-House, being build on the Near West Side. Chancellor Cantor and School of Architecture Dean Mark Robbins are noted in the piece.

Syracuse.com reported on interactive success of The NewHouse Agency’s CR-Z campaign for the Honda Media Challenge, a national advertising competition. The SU-student run NewHouse Agency used a speed dating approach on YouTube in the publicity effort, which ranked among the top 10 in the competition.

The upcoming presentation on mindless eating by Brian Wansink at SU’s Center for Health and Behavior was previewed by the Post-Standard.

The Post-Standard’s “Consider This” section (third item) noted the recent University Lecture by Pulitzer Prize winner Nicholas Kristof at SU.

A photo of William Horrace, professor of economics at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, presenting findings to a Syracuse Common Council meeting Monday accompanied the print edition of a Post-Standard story about differing conclusions of two bias studies examining police and community relations in the city.

The Post-Standard reported on Jim and Juli Boeheim being named outstanding volunteer philanthropists by the Association of Fundraising Professionals for charitable work through the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation.

FACULTY QUOTES

C-SPAN (watch video clip) covered a counterterrorism presentation by William Banks, Board of Advisors Distinguished Professor and director of the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism in the College of Law and the Maxwell School, at the Standard Club in Chicago about the institute’s Mapping Global Insecurity project.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School of Management, authored a New York Times article on the effects of the economy and tax uncertainty on charities and the endowments, planned gifts and bequests deferred or affected by changes in tax policy. Johnston also spoke with several radio programs about economic conditions and taxes, including KPFK (Los Angeles), MSNBC’s “Radio Free Dylan” and “The Insana Quotient with Ron Insana.” Additionally, Johnston is mentioned in an Artvoice (Buffalo, N.Y.) article about the subsidy culture in Buffalo public works projects.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Politico story on apathy among young voters.

Larry Kramer, adjunct professor in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communciations, wrote a MarketWatch “Outside the Box” article on blogging versus journalism and how Gawker and other media companies can build their web personality.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported that Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship and founder of the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) in the Whitman School, will address the Rochester Regional Veterans Business Council at Nazareth College.
