The Record (Hackensack, N.J.) reported on the Small Business Administration partnership with Syracuse University on two new programs for veteran-owned start-up businesses, Women Veterans Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship and the Operation Endure and Grow program. Also noted was the expansion of the Whitman School’s Entrepreneurship Boot Camp for Veterans with Disabilities to include Louisiana State University.

The Chronicle of Higher Education and the Post-Standard reported on the compensation for presidents at private colleges and universities.

A study of encounters between citizens and Syracuse police co-authored by William Horrace, professor of economics at the Maxwell School, is noted in a Syracuse.com story on the question of racial profiling in Syracuse.

The Sunday Post-Standard column by Dick Case featured the Institute for the Study of the Judiciary, Politics, and the Media panel held at the College of Law in early November focusing on client-attorney privilege in the Lake Pleasant murder trial of Robert Garrow in the ’70s.

YNN covered a benefit basketball tournament organized by Project Feed Me, an organization founded by SU students. Project Feed Me used the proceeds from the tournament to provide food to an area church on Sunday.

Sunday’s Post-Standard Stars magazine featured a review of “Archipelago,” the Light Work exhibition of photographs by Yolanda del Amo.

Performance of the Jungalbook by the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Drama Department was reviewed in Syracuse.com.

Th3 events and venues were briefly previewed in the Post-Standard Stars magazine.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, was interviewed on Bloomberg “Taking Stock” (watch video clip) about the debut of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” on TLC. He was also quoted in the Forum (Fargo, N.D.) on blue-collar comics and redneck culture and in a Press of Atlantic City story about “Boardwalk Empire.”

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, is quoted ina Bloomberg Businessweek article about the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform and in a Forbes “Taxing Matters” blog entry on tax expenditures in 2011.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted in a Lexington Herald-Leader about the Alltech equine feed supplements company and its sponsorship of the World Equestrian Games.

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in the College of Human Ecology’s School of Social Work, was interviewed on Albany’s WTEN and WNYT (watch clips) about the future of Social Security.

Suzette Meléndez, practitioner in residence at the College of Law and director of the Children’s Rights and Family Law Clinic, was interviewed on the Upstate HealthLink on Air radio show on WSYR-AM about the Syracuse Medical Legal Partnership between the College of Law and SUNY Upstate Medical University. A podcast of the broadcast is available here.

Bob Herz, director of the Whitman School’s South Side Innovation Center (SSIC), authored an op-ed in the Post-Standard on the growth, success and entrepreneurship of the SSIC.
