SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

On Nov. 11 the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University was featured on ABC World News (view clip). Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship and founder of the EBV, and John Raftery, a 2007 graduate of EBV, were interviewed. Haynie was also interviewed on CNBC and featured in a 9WSYR (view clips) Veterans Day report. Also, the EBV expansion was reported in Dallas Morning News, Advocate (Baton Rouge, La.), Everett Daily Herald (Wash.) and Post-Standard stories as well as the Veterans Today Network and Portfolio.com blog entries.

CNY Central (view clip) reported on yesterday’s Veterans Day events on campus and ABC News on Campus featured SU’s flag relay, coordinated by Lt. Col. Sue Hardwick, United States Army and director of military science at SU. Hardwick was quoted in the report.

Work by Christopher Scholz, professor of earth sciences in The College of Arts and Sciences, was noted in a New Times (Kigali) article about an oil exploration survey on Africa’s Lake Kivu by the Canadian Vanoil Energy company.

A credit transfer agreement between SU and Georgia Perimeter was briefly reported in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The Syracuse Symposium lecture by Richard A. Marquise, former special agent with the FBI and lead investigator on the Pan Am 103 investigation, was covered by 9WSYR and YNN.

The Newhouse School-hosted presentation in Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium on the marketing campaign for baby carrots is featured in a Syracuse New Times story.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a National Post (Canada) story on an offensive trailer for “Lake Shore,” a reality show based in Toronto; in a Boston Globe story about “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” replacing “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Boston’s WCVB-TV; and in a Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel article about the politics of change being reflected in television programming.

Roy Gutterman, associate professor of communications law and journalism at the Newhouse School, is quoted in a 9WSYR report on hate speech as protected free speech.

Leigh Gantner, assistant professor in the College of Human Ecology, was interviewed about nutrition labeling for a 9WSYR (view clip) report on placing nutrient labels on the front of food packaging.
