SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Chronicle of Higher Education reported on SU’s expanding efforts to create a more seamless transition of students from community college to SU, including the announcement that SU will offer “predictive financial aid” packages. Donald Saleh, vice president for enrollment management, was interviewed.

Pitchfork music blog highlights the soundtrack for Gerardine Wurzburg’s “Wretches and Jabberers” documentary about the travels of disability rights advocates Tracy Thresher and Larry Bissonnette. Paste Magazine also highlighted the film.

A Brattleboro Reformer (Vermont) story about Imagining America, college students and community internships, mentions Syracuse University as the base for the Imagining America national campaign.

Newsday reviewed the William D. Kaufman book, “The Day My Mother Cried and Other Stories,” published by Syracuse University Press.

The Portland Press Herald (Maine) reviewed the exhibition of photography by Bruce Strong, associate professor of visual and interactive communications in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, on view at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland.

A Marketwatch release reported on the PepsiCo Dream Machine Recycling Initiative’s inaugural $500,000 donation to benefit the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV), a national program created and managed in the Whitman School of Management. Mike Haynie, founder of the EBV and assistant professor of entrepreneurship in the Whitman School, is quoted.

The Post-Standard previewed the upcoming lecture by Richard A. Marquise, former special agent with the FBI and the lead investigator on the Pan Am 103 investigation, on Nov. 11 as part of the 2010 Syracuse Symposium.

A Post-Standard story on Leadership Greater Syracuse notes Michael Rathbun, assistant director of community policing in the Department of Public Safety, among the 2010 graduates of the program.

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, was interviewed by El Temps News (Barcelona) on the trial of Charles Taylor.

Daily Nation reported on the meta-study on love led by Stephanie Ortigue, assistant professor of psychology in The College of Arts and Sciences.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, is quoted in AM NY on the possibilities of Nancy Pelosi as minority leader.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in the Philadelphia Daily News on Americans’ cable television viewing habits. He is also quoted in the Christian Science Monitor about Conan O’Brien’s TBS return to television.

Scott Lathrop, clinical professor of marketing in the Whitman School, is quoted in a 9WSYR segment on fast food marketers targeting children.
