SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Friday Los Angeles Times “Pop and Hiss” music blog focuses on production of the soundtrack for Gerardine Wurzburg’s “Wretches and Jabberers” documentary about the travels of disability rights advocates Tracy Thresher and Larry Bissonnette.

Syracuse University alumnus Sean O’Keefe and his son, SU sophomore Kevin O’Keefe, were featured in an NBC Dateline segment and an AOL News report about their survival and recovery following a plane crash in Alaska.

A Your News Now (YNN) Going Green report with SUNY-ESF featured the SU-IBM Data Center and an interview with Mark Weldon, executive director for corporate relations at the University.

“Neuroimaging of Love” research by Stephanie Ortigue, assistant professor of psychology in The College of Arts and Sciences, about the emotion and its influence on brain chemistry was featured in UPI, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Science 2.0 articles. Ortigue’s research was also reported in Softpedia, the Inforcera blog and the Times of India.

Buffalo News and Indian Country Today reported on the campaign of Robert Odawi Porter, professor law in the College of Law, for the Seneca Nation of Indians presidency.

This afternoon’s installation of Tiffany Steinwert as Dean of Hendricks Chapel was featured in a Post-Standard report.

YNN, 9WSYR and CNY Central (watch video clip) reported on the annual Rose-Laying Ceremony held by the 2010-11 Remembrance Scholars at the Wall of Remembrance in front of SU’s Hall of Languages on Friday. Photos from the event appeared in Saturday’s Post-Standard.

The cover photo on Sunday’s Post-Standard Stars magazine shows an Everson Museum view of the “The Quintet of the Astonished” by SU alumnus Bill Viola. The installation of the Urban Video Project piece is featured in Stars.

FACULTY QUOTES

Youlonda Copeland-Morgan, associate vice president of enrollment management, is quoted in a U.S. News and World Report article about role of waitlists in the college application process.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review story on Bill Cosby and in an 89.3 KPCC Southern California Public Radio broadcast about repercussions following NPR’s firing of Juan Williams. A podcast is available.

Elizabethe Payne, part-time assistant professor in the School of Education, spoke with 9WSYR this morning about effective approaches to addressing LGBT bullying in schools, both locally and nationally.

An op-ed by Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, about voter frustration, negative campaigning and a “none of the above” voting option, appeared in Sunday’s Post-Standard.

Sarah Short, professor of nutrition science and dietetics at the College of Human Ecology, and several SU students are quoted in a YNN story on energy drinks containing caffeine and alcohol that are popular on college campuses.
