Journalist Luisita Lopez Torregrosa to visit Newhouse School Nov. 9

Journalist Luisita Lopez Torregrosa will visit Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications on Tuesday, Nov. 9 as part of the school’s Leaders in Communications lecture series. She will speak on immigration and the elections at 7:30 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots.

torregrosaTorregrosa is a columnist for the International Herald Tribune/New York Times global editions, a correspondent for PoliticsDaily.com and an op-ed contributor to the Los Angeles Times. She is a former assistant national editor for the New York Times. Her articles have appeared in Vanity Fair, the New York Times, Condé Nast Traveler and Vogue. She is the author of an award-winning memoir; a distinguished adjunct professor at Fordham University’s Latin American and Latino Studies Institute; and an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Torregrosa has covered major events and world leaders in Manila, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul and Jakarta. She has written frequently on Southeast Asia and Latin America. At the Philadelphia Inquirer and the New York Times, she twice shared a Pulitzer Prize as a member of the editing staff.

Her memoir, “The Noise of Infinite Longing” (HarperCollins/Rayo, 2004), was chosen as best nonfiction of the year at the 2004 Latino Book Awards and as a top 10 literary debut by LA Weekly.

She has done extensive reporting and writing on a wide variety of subjects, with a focus on the Caribbean, Latin America, Southeast Asia and American politics and pop culture.
