The Africa Edition of University World News reported on development partnerships between universities in Africa and the United States, including between Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya, and Syracuse University to train secondary school teachers.

Information from SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is cited in a Wall Street Journal article about the Secure Communities program of the Department of Homeland Security and in a McClatchy-Tribune Business News article on the voluntary return of undocumented immigrants who face possible deportation.

The Auburn Citizen reported on students from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications documenting life in Auburn over the weekend, concluding with a multimedia public presentation. Bruce Strong, associate professor of visual and interactive communications in the Newhouse School, is quoted in the article.

The Post-Standard Stars magazine featured Th3 events in its Art Calendar section.

Syracuse.com posted screening times, recommended films and video clips in continuing coverage of the 2010 Syracuse International Film Festival.

An Oneida Daily Dispatch story on the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum Commemoration Ceremonies for inductees noted planned presentations by Carol Faulkner, department chair and associate professor of history in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, and Meredith Ellis, anthropology graduate fellow in the Maxwell School.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a USA Today article on the remaking of Starbucks retail outlets serving regional wine and beer and local cheeses; a Washington Post story on the passing of Barbara Billingsley who portrayed June Cleaver on the 1950s “Leave It to Beaver” sitcom; and in a China Post article about Glenn Beck’s influence and American paranoia.

Robert McClure, Chapple Family Professor of Citizenship and Democracy at the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Buffalo News article on the upcoming seven-way debate of New York gubernatorial candidates.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Post-Standard article on political incumbents, voter pessimism and polling questions; in a Watertown Daily Times article on similarities between the 1994 and 2010 mid-term elections and ramifications for northern New York; and in a Syracuse.com story on participation by Howie Hawkins in tonight’s debate between New York gubernatorial candidates.

Jeffrey Stonecash, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in an adaptation of “Tales from the Sausage Factory: Making Laws in New York State” which appeared in the Post-Standard. Written by Dan Feldman and Gerald Benjamin, the article focuses on function, history and dysfunction in the New York State Legislature.
