SUArt Galleries shows exhibitions during Orange Central
Enhance your Orange Central experience by exploring Syracuse University’s extensive art collection in the newly renovated Open Storage spaces at SUArt Galleries, where additional permanent collection pieces are on display. Additional pieces will be on view in the newly designed Gallery of American Art including, “City Views: American Art and the Urban Image,” an exhibition that explores artists’ reactions to the growth of cities in 20th-century America.
The art Orange Central agenda kicks off with gallery talks on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 5-7 p.m., when guests can join co-curators of the exhibition “Four x Four: Community Curators and the Syracuse University Art Collection.” The trio—former SU lacrosse coach Roy Simmons Jr., Community Folk Art Director Kheli Willetts, and journalist Nancy Keefe Rhodes—will discuss why they chose specific pieces in their exhibition. An alumni tour will be held Friday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m.
On Sunday, individuals can participate in the second annual Cantus Novus concert at 2 p.m. in the SUArt Galleries. The event is free and is open to the public. Founded in 2009, Cantus Novus is the only student-run new music organization at SU. Its mission is to promote student composers and performers in the Setnor School of Music, providing opportunities for composers to have their works performed in concert, as well as bringing new music to the SU community.
The gallery will also be open on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
