SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Local media coverage of Syracuse University’s announcement of the historic gift by Howie and Louise Phanstiel to establish the Phanstiel Scholars program at SU includes reports by Your News Now (YNN) and CNY Central (view video clip).

SU is mentioned in an Inc. magazine article about start-ups which manage their clients’ online reputations, including Brand-Yourself.com, organized by SU alumnus Pete Kistler.

A Post-Standard construction update on TED, the R-House and Live Work Home-the green homes located on the Near West Side-refers to the SyracuseCoE and the School of Architecture.

WSYR-TV and the Central New York Business Journal reported on the Manlius opening of Whitman School of Management senior Ryan Novak’s second Chocolate Pizza Shop. The original store is in Marcellus.

The SU Bookstore’s text book rental program is featured in a WSYR-TV segment on renting college text books. Kathleen Bradley, text and general book division manager at the Bookstore, is quoted.

The SU Department of Drama production of “Cabaret” was previewed in the Post-Standard.

FACULTY QUOTES

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and the Whitman School, was interviewed Thursday on NPR’s Las Vegas regional “Talk of the Nation” program to discuss the concept of small businesses within the context of extension of the Bush-era tax cuts.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in the Charlotte Observer on the 50th anniversary of “The Andy Griffith Show” and in an Agence France Presse article about comedian Stephen Colbert appearing before the U.S. Congress. Thompson is also quoted in the Los Angeles Times on the passing of television writer and producer Stephen J. Cannell and commented for WTOP-AM in Washington, D.C. (listen to audio clip) about the principles and precedents set by Congress for the advertising industry in legislation controlling the audio volume of TV ads.

Steve Davis, associate professor and chair of the Newhouse School’s newspaper and online journalism department, is quoted in a Goshen Chronicle story about potential conflicts of interest on the part of the Orange County Water Authority board of directors regarding development of the county’s water master plan.

Dinesh Gauri, assistant professor of marketing in the Whitman School, is quoted in a Newswise article about how retail shopping habits in the United States are affected by fluctuating gas prices.

David Bennett, professor of history in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Post-Standard story about gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino and the 1970 student strike on the SU campus. College of Law Professor Emeritus Travis H.D. Lewin also commented for the article.
