SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Data from SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is featured in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article on costs of the growing backlog of immigration cases in Georgia.

“Brave Girl Eating,” the new book by Harriet Brown, assistant professor of magazine journalism in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is briefly reviewed in the current issue of People magazine.

The Post-Standard previewed the “Illuminating Oppression: Eighth Annual Human Rights Film Festival” along with its Digital Witness Symposium presentation.

Sunday’s Post-Standard reported briefly on events and speakers during the 10th Annual SyracuseCoE Symposium, “Restoring Sustainable, Healthy Communities.”

FACULTY QUOTES

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School of Management, appeared on MSNBC’s Countdown With Keith Olbermann (watch clip) discussing the historical effect on the economy of Bush-era tax cuts, using 2008 income tax data. The MSNBC segment references Johnston’s recent Tax.com column.

Whitman School of Management Dean Melvin T. Stith is featured in a Diverse Issues in Higher Education story about diversity in business school deanships.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution story on the new cast of “real” contestants on “The Apprentice;” in Canada.com on the continuing popularity of the “Dexter” TV drama; and in the New York Post on new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler at “American Idol.” Thompson is also quoted in CNN and Money Times articles about NBC’s CEO Jeff Zucker stepping down and in Politico on the replacement of CNN’s Jon Klein following a year of slumping ratings.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, is quoted in an Albany Business Review story about business lobbying groups and gubernatorial candidate Carl Palladino. Reeher also authored a Sunday Post-Standard op-ed about unexpected results from political polls in the lead-up to New York State’s 2010 gubernatorial race.
