SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Post-Standard provided a video feature and article on the third annual SU/SUNY-ESF Shack-A-Thon where hundreds of students sponsor and “live” in small shacks on the University’s Quad to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing. WSYR-TV (watch clip) also reported on the event live from campus.

The Post-Standard previewed the upcoming keynote address by urban education reform activist Steve Perry at today’s WellsLink Transitions Ceremony.

The Post-Standard reported on the news that the Urban Video Project has added an additional location at the Everson Museum of Art and that video artist Bill Viola ’73 will inaugurate the new location with his work.

WSYR-TV (watch clip) reported on the University’s efforts in hazing prevention and highlighted the work of Alpha Chi Omega and its Hands Up Against Hazing program. This week is National Hazing Prevention Week.

FACULTY QUOTES

The new book “Barack Obama and 21st Century Politics,” by Horace Campbell, professor of African American studies and political science in The College of Arts and Sciences, was reviewed by the Asia Times.

Randy Elder, senior associate dean in the Whitman School, was quoted in Crain’s Detroit Business on hospital IPOs.

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in the College of Human Ecology’s School of Social Work, was quoted in the Politics on the Hudson blog about the coalition to preserve Social Security.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, was quoted in the Kansas City Star about network efforts to bring audiences back to Friday night television programming.
