SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The recent Newsweek national poll surveyed in partnership with the Washington Monthly which ranks the most service-minded colleges and universities includes Syracuse University as fifth among the top 25.

A CBS MoneyWatch article about book-less university libraries makes reference to the vision of Suzanne Thorin, University Librarian and dean of the Library.

A research group headed by Kevin Crowston, professor of information studies in the School of Information Studies (iSchool), is mentioned in an AZoNano.com story about citizen scientists and collaboratie research. Andrea Wiggins, an iSchool graduate student, is quoted in the article.

Tuesday’s Post-Standard “Green Central New York” section highlights the upcoming 10th Annual SyracuseCoE Symposium, “Restoring Sustainable, Healthy Communities,” which opens with a University Lecture presentation by green economic strategist Majora Carter. Additionally, the section features an article on the Patchwork Collective, led by School of Architecture (SOA) graduate and undergraduate students. The story also mentions Kevin Lair, assistant professor in SOA; D-Build and Don Carr, associate professor of design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts; the iBox, an interdisciplinary center for sustainable business practices; and the Student Sandbox business incubator.

The section’s center spread focuses on electric vehicles and charging stations in Central New York, with mention of the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles delivered to SyracuseCoE for the Clean Communities of CNY demonstration program. That demonstration program at SyracuseCoE is also noted in an EarthTechling green technology blog post.
