SU NEWS AND EVENTS

ABC News on Campus reported on Syracuse celebrating the fourth annual PARK(ing) Day display of public art spaces, noting the role of COLAB, an interdisciplinary initiative based in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA).

The Syracuse University Bookstore is mentioned in a Wall Street Journal blog entry about geo-location applications offered in university settings. Also, University participation in the launch of Foursquare’s university program was briefly noted in the VentureBeat blog.

A photo of Samba Laranja, SU’s Brazilian Ensemble in VPA, participating in this weekend’s Westcott Cultural Fair, appeared in the Post-Standard. Elisa Dekaney, associate professor in VPA’s School of Music, and Erica Scarano, VPA senior, are pictured drumming.

FACULTY QUOTES

Mehrzad Boroujerdi, director of the Middle Eastern Studies Program in the Maxwell School and The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted an Associated Press article on the release of Sarah Shourd from Iranian prison.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution story about NBC’s “Undercovers” spy drama and in Daily Finance and Christian Science Monitor stories on political rally events announced by comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Thompson is also quoted on niche channels versus mass communication in an Arizona Republic article on cable and network TV programming.

Patrick Penfield, assistant professor of supply chain management in the Whitman School of Management, is quoted in an Oregonian article about onshore industrial manufacturing.

Thomas Dennison, professor of practice in public administration in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Post-Standard article about Crouse Hospital buying the Internist Associates practice.

Joanne Lenweaver, director of the WISE Women’s Business Center (WWBC) at the South Side Innovation Center, commented for a CNY Link report on a WWBC conference for entrepreneurs interested in doing business with the federal government.
