SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

In an NPR report on UCLA’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV), Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management is noted as originator of the EBV programs around the country. Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship in the Whitman School and EBV founder, is quoted in the piece.

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation was featured in a CNY Central (view video clip) report on the red carpet opening for a Syracuse-area teen’s project to make and star in his own movie.

Several SU students are mentioned in a Sunday Post-Standard story about Acts of Kindness Weekend activities sponsored by Women Transcending Boundaries.

Saturday’s Post-Standard briefly noted the SU Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship will hold sessions beginning in October for entrepreneurs and people interested in starting businesses.

FACULTY QUOTES

A Tax Notes commentary by David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School, discusses answers to a question Johnston posed about where one might invest a billion dollars, testing various hypotheses on moving the U.S. economy out of its current decline. College of Law Professor Robert Ashford is quoted in the piece. Also, the 24/7 Wall St. financial news and opinion blog noted Johnston’s tax policy analysis and theory on the topic.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted on tennis media coverage and marketing in a Bloomberg (view video clip) “Taking Stock” article on the U.S. Open Tennis Championships.

Donna Marsh O’Connor, writing instructor in The College of Arts and Sciences, was interviewed on Good Morning America and quoted in the Washington Post about 9/11 remembrance events at Ground Zero and the proposed Muslim community center and mosque nearby.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a McClatchy News article about small business owners worried about tax code changes.

Jeffrey Stonecash, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in a Bloomberg article about the final major-state primary votes ahead of the November general election.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, was interviewed in Sunday’s Post-Standard about old ideas recycled into new television shows and was quoted in the Cleveland Plain Dealer about “As the World Turns” ending.

Paula Meseroll, director of marketing and communications, and Flossie Turner Lewis were interviewed about their book, “Little Hot Mama: The Flossie Turner Lewis Story,” on the Power 106.9 radio show hosted Sunday by Roosevelt Wright, associate professor in the Newhouse School.
