SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Sunday’s Post-Standard opinion page focused on the work of the Syracuse University Cold Case Justice Initiative (CCJI) and its co-directors, law professors Janis McDonald and Paula Johnson. The Sunday “Consider This” section discussed the CCJI’s “Never Too Late for Justice” events for surviving family members of the victims of civil rights violence. Johnson and McDonald are quoted.

Eagle Newspapers reported on the public art installation, “A Love Letter to Syracuse,” commissioned by the Near Westside Initiative (NWSI) along the Connective Corridor. Maarten Jacobs, NWSI director, is quoted.

FACULTY QUOTES

SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor is quoted in a sidebar to the Post-Standard story on the 90th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution giving women the right to vote.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a St. Petersburg Times story on media consolidation and one family’s efforts to boycott Disney for a year; and in a Press of Atlantic City story on the increasingly visible presence of female fans of comics and superheroes. Thompson is also quoted in an AOL Daily Finance article on the prestige value of winning an Emmy Award and in WCBS-NY and WTOP-DC (listen to audio) reports on Blockbuster preparing for potential bankruptcy.

Roy Gutterman, director of the Tully Center for Free Speech and associate professor of communications and newspaper and online journalism, is quoted in a Wall Street Journal Speakeasy blog entry on digital journaling.
