Student entrepreneurs with start-up businesses taking part in the Syracuse Student Sandbox Demo Day were interviewed during a WRVO broadcast of National Public Radio “Morning Edition.” The Sandbox is part of the iSchool’s Student Start-up Accelerator, a collaborative project led by Syracuse University and the Syracuse Technology Garden. Also, Sandbox Demo Day activities were noted in the Post-Standard “Consider This” section.

A Britain News report on Palestinian children tortured in Israeli prisons cited data from Impunity Watch, a College of Law student-led forum on human rights and impunity issues world-wide.

ABC News on Campus featured a video segment on the Mobile Literacy Arts Bus (M-LAB) and the work being done with children in the Syracuse City School District, as part of the Say Yes camp, to bring out their creative side. Also, Rachel Gazdick, Say Yes Syracuse executive director, commented for a WSYR-TV story (watch clip) on the city’s Say Yes students starting their 2010-11 academic year at SU and other colleges and universities.

FACULTY QUOTES

Janis McDonald, professor in the College of Law, is quoted in a New York Times article about investigations of racially motivated murder cases from the Civil Rights Era. The article highlights the work of the Cold Case Justice Initiative-headed by College of Law Professors McDonald and Paula Johnson-to uncover new details in unsolved cold cases.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School of Management, appeared on MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” (watch clip) to discuss Senate leaders considering extension of Bush-era tax cuts scheduled to sunset this year.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a Washington Post story on CNN’s Sunday morning talk show anchor Candy Crowley.

A Post-Standard interview with Harriet Brown, assistant professor of magazine journalism at the Newhouse School, discusses family-based therapy for treatment of anorexia and features Brown’s newly-published book, “Brave Girl Eating.”
