SU in the News: Tuesday, August 17

SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Syracuse Medical-Legal Partnership, an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Syracuse University College of Law and SUNY Upstate Medical University, is mentioned inan American Medical News article on proposed congressional funding for medical-legal partnerships which integrate legal assistance into medical settings.

SU Trustee Donovan McNabb ’99 is featured in a Sunday Post-Standard story about his career and plans for public service projects and socially responsible business ventures. Michael Veley, director and chair of the College of Human Ecology’s Department of Sport Management, is quoted in the article. McNabb is also the focus of the Tuesday’s Post-Standard editorial.

Research by William Duncombe and John Yinger, professors of public administration in the Maxwell School, is cited in a Michigan MLive.com news article and in Flint Journal and Saginaw News stories about potential savings from consolidation of public school districts.

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is mentioned in a CNY Central (view video clip) story about the SU/Make-A-Wish Foundation team working to fulfill a Central New York teen’s wish to make his own movie.

SU is mentioned in a WCBS-NY radio segment (listen to clip) about college roommate assignments.

An FYI Living article on the Meatless Monday initiative mentions SU.

A Post-Standard Dick Case column on the Gridley House made note of A. Dale Tussing, economics professor emeritus in the Maxwell School, as the historic home’s owner.

FACULTY QUOTES

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, was interviewed by the Chinese language Life Week magazine for an article about the former Liberian leader Charles Taylor and blood diamonds.

Larry Elin, associate professor in the Newhouse School, commented for a PBS MediaShift story about the impact of social media on journalists and the media industry.

Harriet Brown, assistant professor of magazine journalism at the Newhouse School, authored an essay in the New York Times on how family, friends and community cope with the crises of others.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in The Gazette (Montgomery County, Md.) on Elvis impersonators and in AOL’s Daily Finance web site about News Corp., Fox News and the proposed Cordoba House mosque and Islamic community center in lower Manhattan.

Peter Wilcoxen, associate professor of economics and public administration at the Maxwell School, is quoted in a WRVO radio news story on the Sunoco ethanol plant project in Fulton at the site of the former Miller brewery.
