SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Joe Whelan, adjunct instructor of drama in the Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and Syracuse Stage publications director, is mentioned in a Post-Standard story about SU Department of Drama students and alumnae participating in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.

The role of the SU College of Law Cold Case Justice Initiative (CCJI) and Janis McDonald and Paula Johnson, law professors and CCJI co-directors, with investigating unsolved Civil Rights-era murder cases was highlighted in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution op-ed.

A construction update on three green homes on the Near West Side–TED, the R-House and Live Work Home, appeared in the Post-Standard. The green building effort is a project of Home HeadQuarters, the SU School of Architecture, SyracuseCoE, and the Near West Side Initiative. Panel fabrication in a VPA workshop in the Warehouse was noted.

The Post-Standard briefly noted the IAQVEC 2010 indoor air quality conference being held this year at SU.

FACULTY QUOTES

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, is quoted in a Canada.com article about the war crimes trial of former Liberian leader Charles Taylor in the Special Court for Sierra Leone and testimony by celebrities Naomi Campbell, Mia Farrow and others.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in Singapore’s TODAY Online about a new trend in TV heroes.

Robert Odawi Porter, professor of law in the College of Law, is quoted in a Post-Standard article on the legal battle over the Oneida Indian land claim.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a McClatchy Newspapers story on political debate over extending Bush-era tax cuts scheduled to expire.

Me’Shae Brooks-Rolling, director of special events and public relations in the Burton Blatt Institute, wrote a Post-Standard Moneywise column on minimizing financial risk before potential job loss by eliminating unnecessary spending.
