SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Stars and Stripes, the New Jersey Star-Ledger and Fox & Friends featured the Whitman School of Management’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) program. Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship in the Whitman School and EBV program founder, was quoted in the Stars and Stripes article.

Syracuse University and the SyracuseCoE are mentioned in a Crain’s New York Business report on creation of a New York Energy-Regional Innovation Cluster proposed by an upstate/downstate consortium of educational, nonprofit, government and industry groups to transform the process of invention-to-deployment for energy-efficient building systems. Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric Spina is quoted. SU and the SyracuseCoE are also noted in a Post-Standard letter to the editor by CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity.

Research findings from Larry Wolf, biology professor in The College of Arts and Sciences, are noted in a Ruidoso News (N.M.) article on hummingbird migrations.

College of Visual and Performing Arts musical theater major Ross Baum was reviewed in the role of Nathan Detroit for a Helena Independent Record (Mont.) story on the Grandstreet Theater production of “Guys and Dolls.”

WSYR-TV (watch audio clip) and CNY Central covered today’s mock disaster drill staged at Shaffer Art Building on the SU campus.

The Post-Standard reported on SU’s decision to leave the federal GEAR UP program.

SyracuseCoE work with new materials is noted in a Post-Standard Stars magazine column on the upcoming Herman Miller design exhibition at the Everson Museum of Art.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a San Jose Mercury News story about Jerry Rice and athletes as entertainers; in TheStreet.com about the passing of the Apple iPod era; and in two MTV stories on the departure of Ellen DeGeneres from “American Idol” and selection of a replacement judge for the show. Also, Thompson was quoted in a PBS presentation of the “Make Em Laugh” documentary series.

Tom Kruczek, executive director of the Whitman School Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship, is quoted in a Wall Street Journal article about startup costs for entrepreneurs.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, contributed a response to a Washington Post (registration required) editorial column posing a question on the best options for the Bush-era tax cuts.

Dana Radcliffe, adjunct professor in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, authored an op-ed in Reuters on the Securities and Exchange settlement with Goldman Sachs and on Fox News on the Gulf oil spill.
