The Whitman School of Management’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) program was mentioned on NPR’s “Morning Edition” business news round-up and was featured in Los Angeles Times, Idaho State Journal and Post-Standard articles. Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship in the Whitman School, was quoted in the Post-Standard. Additionally, MarketWatch noted Justin Bajema, representing EBV, was tapped to preside over the NASDAQ closing bell July 23.

A survey by Peter Blanck, University Professor and director of the Burton Blatt Institute (BBI), was mentioned in a Bloomberg/BusinessWeek article about the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Syracuse University and Say Yes to Education are mentioned in a New York Times story on a partnership between the Newark, N.J., urban school district, New York University and other community participants. Also, the Say Yes Summer Festival was previewed in a CNY Central report.

The Post-Standard briefly previewed an upcoming Syracuse International Film Festival series, “Wine, Women and Film,” with screenings followed by speakers and discussion. SU professors Beverly Allen, Tula Goenka and Owen Shapiro will participate.

SU was mentioned in a Post-Standard story about On Point for College and housing for homeless college students during summer breaks.

FACULTY QUOTES

Marek Kos, a physics research associate in The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in a BBC report about the potential move of the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search II (CDMS II) project from a mine in Minnesota to the deeper SNOLAB in Ontario, Canada.

Gary Shaheen, BBI managing director for program development, was interviewed on WNET-TV, New York City’s PBS station, about the Start-Up NY partnership and its programs for entrepreneurs with disabilities.

The Maxwell School’s Department of Public Administration at SU and Stuart Bretschneider, professor and chair of public administration, are mentioned in a New York Times article about public administration programs in higher education and Ashley Judd, actress and activist.

Me’Shae Brooks-Rolling, director of special events and public relations in BBI, and Mirza Tihic, program manager at the Whitman School’s South Side Innovation Center (SSIC), are quoted in a WNET-TV feature on three entrepreneurs with disabilities who are participating in SSIC programs.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in NBC Chicago and New York Times stories on “Jersey Shore” reality star Nicole Polizzi.

School of Education Dean Douglas Biklen is quoted in a Whittier Daily News (Calif.) story about a local symposium on facilitated communication.

Don Dutkowsky, professor of economics at the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Rochester Democrat and Chronicle story about economic recovery in Upstate New York.

Michael Schwartz, director of the College of Law’s Disability Rights Clinic, commented for a WSYR-TV report on accessibility and the ADA’s 20th anniversary.

Dan Klamm, outreach and marketing coordinator in SU’s Center for Career for Career Services, authored a Post-Standard Moneywise piece about using social media resources to effectively prepare for a job interview.

Carrie Garrow, adjunct professor of indigenous law and executive director of the Center for Indigenous Law, Governance, & Citizenship in the College of Law, commented in a Post-Standard question-and-answer follow-up story about Haudenosaunee passports and the Iroquois Nationals lacrosse team missing World Lacrosse Championship games in Britain.

Kristi Andersen, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted about constant campaigning in a Post-Standard article on fundraising efforts by U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei and his opponent in the upcoming election, Republican Ann Marie Buerkle.
