SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

A news report from Greenwire includes Syracuse University among team members receiving grants from a U.S. Department of Energy program for retrofitting residential buildings to improve energy efficiency.

Eagle Newspapers mentions Syracuse University in an article about the PBS series “Building Healthy Communities” to be broadcast in 2011 that will include a visit to the city, looking at best practices for improving the nation’s health by creating more sustainable, livable communities. SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor is quoted in the article.

Syracuse University journalism student Priyanka Vohra’s internship with Speed Channel through the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program was reported in the Post-Standard and the Baltimore Sun.

Local media coverage on the death of a Syracuse University student included reports by the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle,  Webster Post, Syracuse.com and Rochester and Syracuse TV stations WHAM, WHEC, WROC and CNY Central (view video clips).

FACULTY QUOTES

Jeremy Shiffman, associate professor of public administration at the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Canadian Medical Association Journal article about funding for health research.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in an Access Atlanta article about upcoming Broadway and cinema projects focusing on Martin Luther King Jr. and in a Newsweek story on exporting reality TV shows to overseas markets and on “Jersey Shore” as an icon of America. Thompson is also quoted in Politico on partisanship in politics and media.

ABC News on Campus quoted Amy Sloane-Garris, executive director of marketing and recruitment in SU’s Division of Enrollment Management, in a story on Facebook and students coping with reverse culture shock after time spent abroad. Sloane-Garris is the former director of enrollment management at SU Abroad.

A letter to the editor from College of Arts and Sciences professors Samuel Gorovitz and Cathryn R. Newton about accomplishments by Deborah Freund, distinguished professor of public administration and economics at the Maxwell School, during her SU career, was published in the Post-Standard (fourth item).
