SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The incoming class of the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) program at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University is featured in a Syracuse.com article. Launched at the Whitman School in 2007 and expanded across the nation, EBV provides experiential training in entrepreneurship and small business management to veterans with disabilities. Whitman Dean Melvin T. Stith is quoted in the article.

A photo of Syracuse University students and family members gathered at SU’s Lillian and Emanuel Slutzker Center for International Services, watching Sunday’s World Cup Final soccer game, appeared with a Syracuse.com story on Spain’s winning the title.

Syracuse University’s partnership in the Say Yes to Education program is noted in a Chronicle of Higher Education commentary by Arthur Levine, president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, on the American dream of attending college and achieving economic mobility.

MSNBC, WSTM and WTVH (watch video clips) reported on the call by four U.S. senators for pressure on the United Kingdom to return convicted Pan Am 103 bomber Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi to prison.

An update on the construction progress of three green houses on the Near West Side, a project of Home HeadQuarters, SU’s School of Architecture, the SyracuseCoE, and the Near West Side Initiative, appeared in the Post-Standard. Heating and ventilations systems on TED, the R-House and the Live Work Home sites are being evaluated. The R-House and SOA’s “From the Ground Up: Innovative Green Homes” design competition were also noted in a GreenPacks blog entry.

FACULTY QUOTES

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, is quoted in Associated Press and Sudan Tribune articles about the International Criminal Court re-indictment of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir with added counts of genocide in Darfur. Crane also spoke with Voice of America on enforcement of the Sudan arrest warrants.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a Christian Science Monitor story on “The Closer” and a Toronto Sun article about the “Barefoot Bandit.”
