SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Statistics from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) are cited in a Richmond Times-Dispatch story on the relative wealth of Goochland County, Va.

The Post-Standard reported on the Whitman School of Management role in Crouse Hospital’s Lung Partners program to revamp its respiratory care department and procedures as the incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease rises in the area and the nation. Gary La Point, assistant professor of supply chain practice, is quoted.

The Central New York Business Journal (subscription required) July 9 edition featured a story on the launch of several new Near Westside Initiative entrepreneurship programs. SU, the South Side Innovation Center and Maarten Jacobs, director of the Near Westside Initiative, are also mentioned in the article. Michael Short, an Engagement Fellow at SU and deputy director of the initiative, is quoted.

A reference to SU appears in Saturday’s Post-Standard article about informal soccer games at Barry Park near SU’s South Campus housing which include international and graduate students and community members. Lubomir Kalpaktchiev, a fencing instructor at SU, is quoted.

A Syracuse.com blog entry noted the La Casita Cultural Center Project call for public participation in creation of its logo design. The SU-based cultural initiative is working with children in the Say Yes to Education summer camp program. Inmaculada Lara-Bonilla, assistant professor of languages, literature and linguistics in The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted.

FACULTY QUOTES

Mehrzad Boroujerdi, director of the Middle Eastern Studies Program in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in an Associated Press story about merchant strikes in Tehran sparked by reported plans of a government tax increase on business.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, interviewed Christopher Cook, a British cultural historian, about the symbolism of Goethe’s Oak at Buchenwald. The interview originated in the London studios of BBC as part of the Campbell Conversations in the Public Interest and was broadcast over WRVO.

Mary Karr, Jesse Truesdell Peck Professor of Literature in The College of Arts and Sciences, was interviewed by the Clarion Ledger (Jackson, Miss.) on writing memoirs.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in Associated Press and USA Today stories about response to the LeBron James decision to play for Miami.
