Summer will be celebrated, rain or shine, at the annual Strawberry Festival on the Quad hosted by University College and the Department of Recreation Services. The festival will be held on Friday, June 11, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. In conjunction, this  year’s first University Community Harvest Farmers’ Market will be held in the Q3 Lot from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Students, faculty and staff are invited for strawberry shortcake and sundaes, music and four opportunities to win prizes: a free two-mile fun run and walk starting at noon with on-site registration at 11:30 a.m. on the Quad; a sidewalk chalk art contest; raffles; and a football toss contest.

A campus “trade show” will feature information tables staffed by SU departments. Grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers will be available to purchase.

Strawberry shortcake/sundae tickets are $4 each. Pre-event tickets for strawberry shortcake/sundaes go on sale June 7 at the Carrier Dome Concessions office. To purchase tickets in advance, send an I.D. with ticket delivery instructions, including a room number, to Vera Gibbs (443-4029) at the Carrier Dome. Tickets will also be available on the Quad on June 11.

In the event of rain, the “trade show” will be held under the tent on the Quad and desserts only will be served on the Quad (no grilled items will be available). The chalk art contest will take place in the lobby of HBC, and the Strawberry Fun Run /Walk will continue as planned, unless there is severe weather. Runners and walkers can register online now for the Strawberry Fun Run and Walk at: http://recreationservices.syr.edu/recstore.
