The Onondaga Citizens League will honor Darlene Kerr and Robert M. Simpson with the 2010 Levi L. Smith Civic Education Award. The presentation will take place at the OCL annual meeting, to be held on Wednesday, June 2, from noon-1:30 p.m. at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, One Conservation Place, Syracuse. The registration form is available by calling (315) 443-4846, or online at http://onondagacitizensleague.org. Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon.

OCL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic organization designed to promote citizen education and involvement in public affairs. The Citizens League studies issues facing Central New York, and generates reports with specific recommendations for change. The Civic Education Award, named for OCL’s founder, honors individuals and organizations who contribute to cultivating an informed and active citizenship. Kerr, as president of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, and Simpson, president of the Metropolitan Development Association, led the efforts to merge the two organizations into CenterState Corp. for Economic Opportunity, which Simpson now heads.

For more information, contact Colleen Karl-Howe at (315) 443-4846 or cmkarlho@syr.edu, or see http://onondgacitizensleague.org.
