An article on the future of academic libraries in the Library Journal mentions the Syracuse University Library and quotes Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric Spina and Kal Alston, associate provost for academic affairs and professor of cultural foundations of education in the School of Education. The Association of College and Research Libraries’ appointment of Megan Oakleaf, assistant professor in the School of Information Studies (iSchool), to lead an investigation measuring the value of academic libraries, was also noted.

A Post-Standard story on today’s Law Day ceremonies held by the Onondaga County Bar Association mentions Tom Hadlick, executive director of the WorkKeys program at SU, as a nominator of honoree Joseph Vargo. Also, Kelly Gonzalez, practitioner-in-residence at the College of Law, is included among the 2010 Onondaga County Bar Association Pro Bono Recipients.

Syracuse.com and WSYR-AM reported on the SU Student Association meeting at the Schine Student Center calling for closure of a gun-purchase loophole that allows purchases at shows without background checks.

The Post-Standard reviewed the SU Department of Drama presentation of “I Love You Because.”

FACULTY QUOTES

Dale Meyerrose, iSchool adjunct professor and retired U.S. Air Force major general, was quoted in a Fox News report (watch video here) on the industrial espionage vulnerability of American companies attending the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a McClatchy-Tribune article on trends in consumer spending habits and in a Christian Science Monitor story about comedian Conan O’Brien’s appearance on the CBS news magazine show “60 Minutes.”
