Sutherland speaks at Alexia Photojournalism Seminar in Greece
David Sutherland, Alexia Chair for Documentary Photography at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, was one of five speakers at the Alexia Photojournalism Seminar in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The seminar was brought to Greece by the Alexia Foundation and was held at American College. It attracted 90 people to hear discussions of the importance of documentary photography, and of the ethics and business of photojournalism.
Among the other seminar speakers were Dimitri Messinis, Associated Press director of photography for SE Europe; Peggy Peattie, Alexia Foundation professional winner in 1997 and staff photographer for the San Diego Union-Tribune in California; Greek photojournalist Katrina Mavrona; and Vin Alabiso, president of the Alexia Foundation.
Prior to joining Newhouse, Sutherland was a staff photographer in Kentucky for the Louisville Courier-Journal and the Bowling Green Daily News. He has been a photography coach at the Sacramento Bee. He has also served as chapters chairman and Pictures of the Year competition judge for the National Press Photographers Association.
