SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The recent report by SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) on the IRS spending more time auditing small businesses than large corporations was featured in USA Today.

Syracuse University student Timothy Biba was interviewed on The Today Show about volunteer service in connection with the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) meeting in Florida. Biba, a literacy tutor for underprivileged children through the Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service who teams his reading efforts with a University nutrition program, is attending the 2010 CGI U meeting.

The Central New York Business Journal reported the Internet startup Brand-Yourself.com, an online reputation management platform founded by Syracuse University students, is among five finalists competing for a $200,000 award in the 2010 New York’s Creative Core Emerging Business Competition.

Construction and renovation of dormitories and academic buildings at Syracuse University is mentioned in a Post-Standard story on a rise in construction jobs in the Syracuse metropolitan area.

FACULTY QUOTES

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School, commented on BBC World Service about the Tea Party and taxes and was interviewed on KMOX (St. Louis) on the topic of taxes. Additionally, the Democrat and Chronicle noted he was keynote speaker at the 85th anniversary celebration of the Rochester chapter of the League of Women Voters.

Leonard Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, is quoted by NPR on the strategy to taxing the wealthiest Americans.

Pat Penfield, assistant professor of supply chain management in the Whitman School of Management, is quoted in the February 2010 edition of Inbound Logistics on supply chain management education, particularly the Six Sigma course taught online.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a Guardian (UK) story on the horror film “Birdemic.”

Ellen deLara, associate professor in the College of Human Ecology, School of Social Work, was interviewed by KLPW in St. Louis, Mo., on the stressors placed on adolescents as a result of cybertechnology and its role in teen suicide.

William Banks, Board of Advisors Distinguished Professor and director of the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism in the College of Law and the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Politics Daily online news story about illegal wiretapping of the Oregon-based Islamic charity Al-Haramain.

Keith J. Bybee, Paul E. and Hon. Joanne F. Alper ’72 Judiciary Studies Professor at the College of Law and director of the Institute for the Study of the Judiciary, Politics, and the Media, is mentioned briefly in a DOT Med News article about states that are joining a lawsuit against the new health care reform law.
