SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Syracuse University is mentioned in a Forbes review of Apple’s iPad and its VoiceOver application of audible menu controls.

A Bloomberg article and blog entries on the Wall Street Journal and Guardian (UK) web sites noted SU’s selection of JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon to deliver the 2010 Commencement address and student concerns about the decision.

SU Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) statistics were cited in Web CPA, CNN Headline News (view clip), Fox News (view clip) and KMOV-TV in St. Louis (view clip) stories about the IRS spending more time auditing small businesses than large corporations.

Leonard Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a CNN Money article on value-added taxes and New Zealand’s experience with them. Burman’s congressional subcommittee testimony and his analysis of federal budget proposals on spending and revenues are mentioned in a Christian Science Monitor “Economic Mom” article about ending Bush-era tax cuts.

The Syracuse New Times reported on the announcement of the Syracuse Stage’s 2010-11 season.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, commented for American Public Media “Marketplace” and is quoted in MTV, CBS Radio in New York (listen to audio clip), Christian Science Monitor and Boston Globe stories on Conan O’Brien’s move to the TBS cable channel. Thompson is also quoted in an Adweek article on “Truth” anti-smoking campaign messages and a CNN “Reliable Sources” segment on a Wall Street Journal article’s disclosure that NBC executives insert lessons on living in television scripts.

Grant Reeher, associate professor of political science in the Maxwell School, commented on the growth of the Tea Party movement for a WSYR-TV report on the group’s arrival in Central New York.

Elizabeth Payne, assistant professor in the School of Education, is quoted in a Utica Observer-Dispatch story on teens, sexual orientation and harassment.
