SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

A Denver AP wire story cited information from the recent report by Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) on IRS operations with respect to individual counties.

North Country Public Radio interviewed Gustav Niebuhr, associate professor of religion and media in The College of Arts and Sciences and the Newhouse School, about his book “Beyond Tolerance” and his recent speaking appearance at SUNY Potsdam.

The Post-Standard, CNY Central, WSYR-TV, YNN News, WSYR-AM, and WAER-AM reported on the Distracted Driving Demonstration project held at the Schine Student Center. U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Gov. David Paterson announced that Syracuse will be one of two urban areas in America to receive $300,000 for crackdowns on distracted drivers using cell phones.

Sean Kirst’s Post-Standard column today focused on the recent Whitman Day appearance by Dave Bing.

The Post-Standard previewed the appearance by Seamus Heaney as part of the University Lectures Series.

The Post-Standard covered yesterday’s event where SU and SUNY-ESF students collected shoes for the people of Haiti.

WSYR-AM briefly previewed today’s Fashion Communications Milestone fashion show in the Newhouse 1 lobby, featuring donated clothing and focusing on fashion sustainability. Students from the Newhouse School and the College of Visual and Performing Arts are collaborating on the presentation.

FACULTY QUOTES

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted in an AP story on the coverage of Tiger Woods’ tee-off at the Masters.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in the Washington Post on the recent Nike ad featuring Tiger Woods.

Leonard Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, appeared on MSNBC live (watch clip) to discuss value-added taxes.
