SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Syracuse University’s recognition of Genocide Awareness Week and the lecture by Peter Balakian were previewed in the Armenian Weekly.

Media Bistro‘s WebNewser blog reported that Bloomberg and Twitter will be honored at the fourth annual Mirror Awards, to be presented by the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in New York. Joel Kaplan, associate dean in the Newhouse School, and Brian Sheehan, associate professor of advertising, are quoted.

A design proposal by College of Visual and Performing Arts industrial design students Rahul Mahtani and Yofred Moik is featured in a SmartCompany.com story about Google-map imprinted envelopes for mailing purposes.

The Christian Science Monitor “Patchwork Nation” blog reported on SU’s participation in The Young and the Wireless project investigating the use of technology to change the world.

SU is mentioned in a Washington Post article about small increases in area college tuitions.

The Times-Picayune (New Orleans) briefly previewed a lecture to be presented by Robin P. Malloy, E.I. White Chair and Distinguished Professor of Law in SU’s College of Law, on the economist Adam Smith.

A Post-Standard story on YWCA diversity achievers includes Keith Alford, associate professor of social work in the College of Human Ecology, and Esther Gray, senior administrator in the Office of Academic Affairs, among recipients.

WSYR-AM reported briefly on today’s “I Otto Know This!” financial issues program.

John Liddy, entrepreneur in residence, is quoted in a Post-Standard briefing about a giveaway event on SU’s Quad today to promote the “Emerging Talk” entrepreneurship conference to be held April 28 at the Syracuse Technology Garden.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, and Norm O’Reilly, associate professor of sport management, co-authored an opinion piece in SportsBusiness Journal (subscription required) on the role and influence of the International Olympic Committee as an official observer of the United Nations.

Boyce Watkins, assistant professor of finance in the Whitman School of Management, is quoted in Washington Independent article on unemployment among minorities.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Sydney Morning Herald stories on the recent press conference Tiger Woods held ahead of his return to U.S. Masters competition.
