Syracuse takes on UConn in College Battle blood drive

Syracuse students now have a chance to prove they bleed orange in an ultimate blood donor showdown against the University of Connecticut. The College Battle is a fun-spirited, friendly competition between rival universities. The schools battle it out to see who can bring in the most blood donations for the American Red Cross.

Donating blood is a great way for everyone in the community to show support for their local college and help maintain the community blood supply. At the end of the competition, the university that had the most productive donors or highest percentage of donors wins.

“This is a challenge to the University community. If you bleed orange, share your love with the millions of people who need blood donations,” says SU alumna Deana Cater. “What better way is there to get the community excited about blood donation than allowing them to display their school spirit? Folks come out in droves to support their team, so we know they will come by the hundreds to help save lives.”

The first donation opportunity in the blood drive will be Tuesday, April 6, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the College of Law. Other opportunities are as follows:

  • Wednesday, April 7, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Marshall Hall, ESF
  • Wednesday, April 14, 1-6 p.m., Phi Kappa Psi
  • Thursday, April 15, 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center
  • Friday, April 16, noon-5 p.m., Lawrinson Hall
  • Monday, April 26, noon-5 p.m., Winnick Hillel Center

To make an appointment to donate blood as part of the College Battle, or for more information about donating blood, call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit http://redcrossblood.org. Individuals who are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in New York and Pennsylvania), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Identification is required at the time of donation.
