SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Research from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) was cited in Washington Post, Arizona Republic and Arizona Daily Star articles on the backlog of cases in the nation’s immigration courts and failures to fill judicial vacancies. Additionally, the New York Times City Room blog and Main Justice web site included reports.

A Rochester Institute of Technology presentation by David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School, about returning to prosperity in America was reported in the Sunday business section of the Democrat and Chronicle.

The Bennington Banner (Vt.) and Albany Times Union (third item) reported on a Clark Art Institute presentation by Judith Meighan, associate professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, about the artwork of Giovannni Boldini.

The Madison County Courier previewed a presentation by Milton C. Sernett, professor emeritus of history and African American studies in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, on the history of tractors and agricultural work.

FACULTY QUOTES

Johanna Keller, director of the Goldring Arts Journalism Program and associate professor in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a National Public Radio “All Things Considered” article on composer Samuel Barber. Audio links are also available.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, wrote a New York Times article on Stephen Crane, author of “The Red Badge of Courage,” and his experience with baseball at SU in 1891. Burton also wrote a column for the Sports Business Journal (subscription required) on the Paralympics and is quoted in a Los Angeles Times article on the Dodgers and Manny Ramirez.

The “Marc Steiner Show” on WEAA radio (Baltimore, Md.) featured Paula Johnson, professor in the College of Law, and the Cold Case Justice Initiative’s response to the recent FBI announcement that it plans to close most of the pending investigations on civil rights cold cases. Amy Leal, instructor in The College of Arts and Sciences English department, wrote an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education about the proliferation of Jane Austen/vampire mashup books.

Jack Matson, director of staff relations and recruitment in SU’s Office of Human Resources, wrote on re-entering the workforce for the Post-Standard Moneywise section.

SU student Jared Diamond is quoted in a Poynter Online story about launching of The Ebert Club, a new online business model and subscription-based club for fans of the film critic Roger Ebert.
