SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

WNET (New York City) (watch clip) featured the Dahesh Museum of Art’s exhibition “Becoming an Artist: The Academy in 19th-Century France” at Syracuse University’s Palitz Gallery at Lubin House.

Media coverage of the dedication of SyracuseCoE headquarters included Syracuse.com, CNY Central, WSYR-TV, News 10 Now, WSYR-AM, WAER and WCNY.

The School of Information Studies (iSchool) was featured in the Tech Biz section of the February 26 edition of The Central New York Business Journal (subscription required) with an article highlighting the iSchool’s decision to extend a scholarship program providing financial aid to about 60 students for another year.

SU’s iSchool Dean and Trustee Professor Elizabeth D. Liddy is featured in the bookshelf section of the March/April women’s issue of The Good Life, Central New York Magazine.

The Post-Standard reported on the resignation of Deborah Freund, distinguished professor of public administration and economics in the Maxwell School, from the Excellus board of directors.

Several SU students studying abroad in Chile were interviewed in Post-Standard and News 10 Now reports following up on the Chilean earthquake.

The March 9 visit of fashion designer Mary McFadden to the College of Visual and Performing Arts for a lecture and evening of fashion was previewed in the Post-Standard.

FACULTY QUOTES

Johanna Keller, director of the Goldring Arts Journalism Program and associate professor in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, authored a feature story in the New York Times on Samuel Barber’s masterpiece, “Adagio for Strings.”

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted on ABC News Good Morning America about varying levels of media scrutiny in coverage of cases of missing girls and women; on CBS Radio (listen to audio clip) on the recent financial dispute between Cablevision and ABC; and in a McClatchy-Tribune article on the movie industry thriving during economic hard times.

Richard Dubin, professor of practice in the Newhouse School, is quoted in an Observer (UK) article on comebacks by stars from situation comedies aired in the 90s.

Donald Saleh, vice president for enrollment management, wrote on strategies for keeping children in college during a recession for the Post-Standard Moneywise section.

Jeremy A. Blumenthal, associate professor in the College of Law, is quoted in a Spartanburg Herald-Journal (South Carolina) article on a decrease in violent crime in the area.
