SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Statistical research from SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is cited in the Seattle Times in an article on prosecutions of civil-rights cases.

Photo District News reported on the 2010 Alexia Foundation grant winners, as part of the annual Alexia Photojournalism Seminar and Competition hosted by the Newhouse School.

The Utica Observer-Dispatch and Syracuse.com previewed the upcoming concert by blues and gospel singer Mavis Staples as part of the Cold Case Justice Initiative in the College of Law. Syracuse University Law Professor Paula Johnson appeared on WSYR-TV’s “Bridge Street” to speak about the concert and the work being done at the College of Law to investigate unsolved Civil Rights-era murder cases.

The Utica Observer-Dispatch featured the College of Visual and Performing Arts collaborations for the “Flying Dutchman” presentation.

The Post-Standard, CNY Central, WSYR-TV, WSYR-AM, and WAER reported on the announcement yesterday that the University was canceling classes based on severe weather projections. This news was also mentioned in a ABC national news report on weather disruptions as a result of the storm along the East Coast.

The Post-Standard reported on University’s Union’s announcement that Drake will headline Block Party.

Eagle Newspapers reported on the upcoming Matrilineage Symposium, presented by The Committee on Women and Art.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in the New York Daily News about newswomen being judged on their appearance. He is also quoted in the Erie Times on “buddy movies,” and in the Los Angeles Times about the demise of GM’s Hummer automobile.

Leonard Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, is quoted in Forbes on new or expanded federal tax expenditures. He is also quoted in U.S. News & World Report on post-recession economic realities.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted by ABC15.com (Arizona) on Arizona attracting more teams for MLB spring training.

iSchool Professor Milton Mueller authored a column in CircleID on the controversy over .xxx / ICANN / WSIS.

Richard Dubin, professor of practice in the Newhouse School, is quoted in the Wall Street Journal (subscription required) on the popularity of the television show “Modern Family.”

Peter Blanck, University Professor and director of the Burton Blatt Institute, is quoted in the Santa Fe Reporter on the Walter Stephen Jackson lawsuit and developmentally disabled waiver issues in New Mexico.
