The Syracuse University Haiti Support Group has launched a clothing drive, “Blankets for Haiti,” to assist the Haitian people in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck the country on Jan.12.

The drive is organized in collaboration with Mohawk Global Logistics (MGL), a Syracuse-based transport and freight company. MGL’s founder, Gar Grannell ’88, and his wife, Francine G’04, are SU alumni.

MGL is working with several other local organizations and schools in the Blankets for Haiti clothing drive. The company has made arrangements with ocean and air carriers to transport and deliver the goods to Haiti for distribution to local organizations there. MGL has provided boxes for collecting, sorting and packing donated items.

The “Blankets for Haiti” clothing drive at SU runs through Friday, Feb. 26. MGL will pick up donated items on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Four categories of new or gently used items are being collected during the clothing drive: blankets and bedding; men’s, women’s and infants’ clothing; hats, caps and scarves; and footwear.
