SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Library Journal, New York Times, Entertainment Weekly and Post-Standard noted the memoir, “Lit,” from Mary Karr, Jesse Truesdell Peck Professor of Literature in The College of Arts and Sciences, is a finalist for a 2009 National Book Critics Circle award. Additionally, Syracuse University alumna Joyce Carol Oates will receive a lifetime achievement award for support of emerging authors.

Articles in CNN Money.com, TMCnet.com and EnergyBoom.com feature the Green Data Center at the University. SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor and Christopher Sedore, vice president for information technology and chief information officer at SU, are quoted.

ApparelSearch.com previewed the campus lecture by Bloomingdale’s operating vice president for fashion direction for women’s ready-to-wear, SU alumna Stephanie Solomon. Jeffrey Mayer, associate professor of fashion history and design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), is quoted in the article.

Monday’s Post-Standard Moneywise section featured an article written by Me’Shea Brooks-Rolling, director of special events and public relations in the Burton Blatt Institute and senior administrator in VPA, on how to prepare ahead for the possibility of job loss.

Local media coverage of SU’s 2010 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration includes a report by Syracuse.com on the 2010 Unsung Heroes and a Post-Standard story on Sunday’s keynote address by journalist Gwen Ifill.

The School of Architecture’s “From the Ground Up: Innovative Green Homes” design competition is mentioned in a Post-Standard story on planned construction of a second “TED” home in the Near West Side.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert McClure, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in an Associated Press news analysis report on Republican, Democratic and independent voters in New York State.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a Los Angeles Times story on the Obama family.

Vincent Tinto, distinguished professor in the School of Education, is quoted in a Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville, Fla.) article on college freshmen leaving college after their first year.

Roy Gutterman, assistant professor in the Newhouse School, and Anthony Rotolo, iSchool social media strategist and adjunct professor, are quoted in a WSYR-TV story on controversy at Roxboro Road Middle School over students’ Facebook postings.

Tanya Horacek, associate professor in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted in a Syracuse.com story on books about dieting and weight loss.
