Kathleen Hinchman, reading and language arts professor in the School of Education, was mentioned in an Education Week article about potential conflicts of interest among authors involved in the efforts by the National Governors Association and the Council of the Chief State School Officers to develop common national academic standards.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, was quoted on the value of hosting the Olympic Games in a Province (Vancouver, British Columbia) story on the Olympic experience and the torch relay in Canada, ahead of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, was quoted in The News Journal (Wilmington, Del.) story on ringtones, technology and social codes; an ABC News report on the popularity of Bernie Madoff Halloween costumes; on Fox News about studies showing correlation between violence on television and in real life; and in a Los Angeles Times article about a new biography of Britney Spears based on psychological narrative.

The Sunday Post-Standard featured choreographer Paul Taylor in an article about the upcoming world premiere of “Brief Encounters,” commissioned by Syracuse University and co-produced by SU and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. A New York Times question-and-answer article on Taylor was also reprinted, along with a list of his 10 most recent works.

A Post-Standard editorial Sunday reflected on the recent announcement that Syracuse University will host and lead development of the FAIR Health database for out-of-network healthcare costs.

Tina Nabatchi, assistant professor of public administration in the Maxwell School, and Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, co-authored an opinion piece in the Post-Standard on the impact of public forums and CNYSpeaks discussions with Syracuse mayoral candidates.
