SU in the News: Tuesday, October 6

Syracuse University Chancellor Nancy Cantor was quoted in a Post-Standard article on the opening of the JPMorgan Chase Technology Center in Lyman Hall today. TradingMarkets.com and WSYR-AM also reported on the opening.

Robert McClure, professor of political science in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and The College of Arts and Sciences, was quoted in an Associated Press article on Kirsten Gillibrand, senator from New York, and Governor David Paterson.

An op-ed by Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, on the practice of repurposing Internet content for traditional television venues appeared in Adweek. Thompson was also quoted on ABC News about the cable TV series, “Mad Men;” and quoted in Associated Press stories on sports and new media and the “feud” between Conan O’Brien and Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker.

Youlonda Copeland-Morgan, associate vice president for enrollment management; Mike Cahill, director of SU’s Center for Career Services; Deborah Kenn, professor in the College of Law; and Gina Soliz, director of financial aid in the College of Law were quoted in a Post-Standard article on how college debt affects graduating students’ job choices. Several SU students were also quoted.

Harriet Brown, assistant professor of magazine journalism in the Newhouse School, was included among presenters at the Wisconsin Book Festival in an Isthmus Daily Page (Madison, Wis.) story.

The Central New York Business Journal reported on a U.S. Small Business Administration grant to SU for low-income entrepreneurs launching businesses.

Tridib Mazumdar, the Gendal Professor of Marketing in the Whitman School of Management, was interviewed by WSYR-TV about Verizon entering the cable market in Central New York.

The upcoming Syracuse University Humanities Center “Forum on Music and Sound in Film” was noted briefly in a Post-Standard story on the mid-October Syracuse International Film and Digital Expo. The Syracuse International Film Festival was also mentioned.

SU and Garland deGraffenried, a 2009 Engagement Fellow, were mentioned in a Post-Standard story on downtown redevelopment, the URBANfuse project and King & King Architects.
